Thai national costume, it can be worn in many colours

Nowadays, many Thais wear clothes like westerners, but in 1960 Queen Sirikit wore a dress that is now considered national dress. It is worn by women on special occasions. It consists of an ankle low silk skirt, and a sash draped over one shoulder. Men wear dark trousers and a white shirt

In public people are expected to be clean and tidy. Thailand has strict rules ar what you can wear in public. There are no singlets allowed in public, and shorts are innapropriate except at the beach. Being topless is illegal except at the beach. Being naked is also illegal. Public displays of affection are looked down on. Thai teenagers may be seen holding hands but that is it.
